

Born on May 31, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Michael lived a full and vibrant life, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He served in the United States Army and proudly carried his New York roots throughout his life, forming lifelong friendships that stretched from New York and New Jersey to Florida, Greensboro, and beyond.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, Michele Grassi; his mother, Angelina Careccia Grassi; and his brother, Dominic Grassi.
He is survived by his brother, Innocenzo “Jess” Grassi, and his sister, Gaetana “Sylvia” Griffin. Though not related by blood, he also shared a special bond with Joseph Iuliano, whom he loved and treated as a son from a young age.
“Mikey G” was a cherished uncle and great-uncle to many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom will remember him for his warmth, humor, and the genuine love he showed to his family.
Not only was he called “Uncle Mike” by his nieces and nephews but also many of the staff at Abbotswood, who took exceptional care of him, along with Hospice in his final days.
Known for his friendly spirit and wide circle of friends, Michael was truly loved by so many. His presence could light up a room, and his connections with others were deep and lasting.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 31, with a floating visitation from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Abbotswood, 3504 Flint Street, Guilford Room.
A funeral service will take place on June 20 at 10:30 AM at the Chapel of Green-Wood Cemetery, immediately followed by interment.
