Michael was born in Plainfield, NJ to the late William S. Martin and Jane Fleck Martin. He was a graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. He worked in home improvement until his health began to fail in 1988. He was a true miracle who kept a radiant smile and a positive outlook on life through his strong faith and his “girls” who he loved so very much.
Michael was a member of Alamance Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and managed the annual Red Cross Blood Drive along with the Whites. He volunteered at Alamance Elementary to help teach children to read through the AR program. He loved to play golf and was a passionate sports fan supporting Duke Basketball, the Yankees and the NY Giants football. Music was an important part of Michael’s life ~ some of his favorite bands were the Grateful Dead, Phish, Elvis Costello and Frank Sinatra.
He is survived by his loving and faithful wife, Susanne E. Martin (Susan); daughters, Christine Martin and Melissa Martin and brother, William Martin of Flemington, NJ. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
The family wishes to thank to Dr. Michael Mattingly and staff, Alice Sirianna,
Dano Sherer and Melinda & David White for their love and steadfast care during his illnesses and for the special friendship you have shown to Michael and each of us throughout the years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the Kidney Foundation of North Carolina, 5950 Fairview Road Charlotte, NC 28210.
