“Mike” Mickey Van Moses died peacefully in his sleep early on December 10, after suffering from Alzheimer’s for some years. He was born May 26, 1940, to Thelma and Minnis Moses in Ft. Payne, AL, and was the youngest of six. Mike is survived by his sister Robena Arrington (Birmingham, AL), who represents the love and support of the older siblings over the years. Mike met his surviving wife Carol Walters Moses at Samford University. They were married for 59 years, lived in Atlanta, Greensboro and Davidson, and raised surviving sons Mike (Huntersville, NC, and wife Angie) and Matt (Asheville, NC), along with welcoming Keith Price (Washington, DC) into the family. After years owning a frame shop and working in the insurance industry, Mike started Grace Discipleship Counseling, where he mentored and counseled many to experience freedom and grace by living fully into their identity in Christ. Mike loved the mountains, reading, one-on-one conversations, and coffee shops. He was a loving husband, fun dad, and involved grandfather who gave much ballast to his two grandsons, Dylan (Philadelphia, PA) and Austin (Brooklyn, NY, and wife Nicole).
A service of thanksgiving for Mike‘s life will take place at Westover Church on January 7, 2023, at 11 am. It will be officiated by the successor to Mike’s ministry, John Freeman. The family expresses great appreciation for the skilled and loving care Mike received at Spring Arbor, as well as from Authoracare Hospice. Donations in his name may be made to Grace Discipleship, which continues fruitfully to this day www.gracegreensboro.org.
