

The funeral will be held at College Place United Methodist Church, 509 Tate Street on Monday February 25, 2012 at 2:30 with Rev. Jason Harvey officiating. Visitation will be held in the John Wesley room one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Westminster Gardens, 3601 Whitehurst Road.
Mildred was born March 27, 1916 in Salisbury, the daughter of the late Reverend and Mrs. Augustus Crawford Tippett. She graduated from Ramseur High School where she was valedictorian of her senior class and was inducted into the Herff-Jones Honor Society. She graduated from Greensboro College where she served as a Marshall and Bishop of the Preachers Kids Club. Mrs. Burgess was a teacher in the North Carolina Public Schools for 36 years with the last 24 years being in the Guilford County Schools. In 1976, she was chosen “Teacher of the Year” at Clara J. Peck Elementary School. She later did volunteer work in reading at the school.
Mildred was a dedicated member of College Place United Methodist Church for sixty years. She was pianist for the Builders Sunday School Class for over 35 years. She was a former member of the Pastor-Parrish committee, member of the administrative board, member of circle #4 and a member of the Senior Citizens Club. She also served as vice-president of the Builders Class and chairperson of the Missions Committee for seven years. A special recognition pin was presented to Mrs. Burgess in 1992 for her work in church missions. She was also voted Lay Person of the year at College Place in 1996. Mrs. Burgess was also a former member of the finance committee and served as secretary for three years.
Mrs. Burgess was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Burgess in 1999. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen B. and Robert D. Morris III; one granddaughter Carolyn Rimmer Faircloth and husband Craig Faircloth; one great grandson, Keegan Faircloth and one great grandson due on March 27, Brycen Faircloth all of Winston Salem, NC, one sister, Dorothy Kille of Mint Hill, NC, several nieces and nephews, Raymond and Patricia Murphy, of Saint Petersburg, FL, Mike and Kerry Lindler of Fort Mill, SC, Beth Brady of West Palm Beach, FL, Al Rowe and Golda Daile Gaskill of Selma, NC, Billy and Linda Brady of Ramseur, North Carolina, Mack and Kay Burgess of Raleigh, NC, Gwendolyn Wells of Zebulon, NC and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Shannon Anderson and Adam Morris of Miami, FL.
