

Myrtle Cox Elmore, 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, at Moses Cone Hospital. Myrtle was born on January 15, 1928 in Davidson County, NC, the daughter of Charles I and Carnie Belle Hedrick Cox.
While a longtime surgical nurse at Wesley Long Hospital, Myrtle ended her 40-year nursing career in the surgery department at Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head, SC. She then retired and returned to her beloved hometown of Greensboro where she has been a resident of Aldersgate Senior Community for the past fifteen years. Myrtle has been a beloved member of Hinshaw United Methodist Church in Greensboro for most of her adult life. While nursing in Greensboro she was an active volunteer with the Red Cross. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
Myrtle is survived by her son; Richard Allen Elmore; grandchildren, Richard Allen Elmore Jr. of Raleigh, NC and Laura Elizabeth Elmore of Richmond, VA., as well as her sisters, Margaret Leonard, Joyce Coppley and Donna Cox, all of Lexington, NC.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, 3:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev. Tom Jolly officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
