Nancy J. Shaw passed away on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Moses Cone Hospital from IPF (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) and heart failure. Nancy was born on September 1, 1946 in Alamance County, the daughter of Joe Marshall and Grace Waltrue Paige Shaw. She grew up playing softball for her church and Police League. She played on a couple of successful teams in Burlington and went to the Softball World Series in Omaha, Nebraska, Parma, Ohio, Louisville, Kentucky, Satellite Beach, Florida, and Cincinnati, Ohio. Nancy received several MVP Awards.
Nancy worked with Old Dominion Freight Lines and retired in 2010 with 28 years of service. She then continued working part time remotely for the next 8 plus years until the time of her death. Nancy was an avid Duke Basketball Fan and loved the Carolina Panthers. Nancy also was an active member of the Piedmont Triad PFF Support Group, the first non-profit support group in North Carolina for patients, caregivers, and family members living with & fighting IPF.
Nancy was a friend to many and will be deeply missed. Those left to cherish her memory are her partner of 48 years, Lynn Berrier; niece, Debbie Vaughn and husband Rick; daughter great niece, Christy Marshall, and great nephew David Moorefield JR, Ricky Vaughn, nephew Joe Shaw and great nephew Zachery Shaw. Babs and Larry Cox, nephew Johnny Covington and wife Joyce and great niece Heather, nephew Justin Cox and wife Stephanie and great nephew Caleb. Brother and Sister Walt and Diane Allen.
A Celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Friday, 11:00 a.m. at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with entombment to follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home.
