Nancy Newburn Sherrill, 92, of Greensboro, passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Whitestone. She was the loving wife of the late Frank Carlyle Sherrill. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her beloved son, Eric Lee Sherrill and her sister, Doris Newburn Whyte.
Born on June 4, 1929 in Sarasota, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Harold James Newburn and the late Eva Lillian Mumford Newburn. Nancy earned a degree in elementary education at Duke University. She was a current member of Christ United Methodist Church; a past member of Starmount Presbyterian, Westminster Presbyterian, and First Presbyterian in Monroe, NC where she was actively involved & dedicated to each church for many years. Even until recently, Nancy cherished her weekly Bible studies with Pastor Pat Spicer at Whitestone.
Nancy’s sweet spirit, her gentle words of encouragement, her sense of humor, and her ability to make everyone a friend made her a beautiful example of a Godly woman.
Nancy was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She is survived by her son, Frank Ceburn Sherrill (Michele) of Reston, VA; daughter, Patti Sherrill Stephens (Alan) of Pleasant Garden; three grandchildren, Lauren Sherrill, Elizabeth DeWitt (Brett), and Natalie Pitchford (Tim); four great grandchildren, River, Lucy, Hudson and Barrett.
In addition to being a generous servant of the church, Nancy spent her time as a homemaker. She had a passion for, and excelled in, the art of cooking, gardening, sewing, and decorating.
A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 pm at Whitestone Chapel on Friday, April 29, 2022.
