Nell Ray Saxon

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Nell Ray Saxon, of Jamestown, North Carolina. Nell passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 85. She was a loving wife, mother, and a cherished “Mimi” to her grandchildren.

Nell was born February 6, 1941, in Coosa County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Elma Gilliland Ray and Johnnie Milton Ray. She met and married Jerry Saxon in August of 1958. A dedicated wife and mother, she raised children while Jerry traveled extensively for work, moving often throughout the southeast. The family eventually settled in Jamestown, NC, in 1978, where Nell helped build the family business while establishing roots and building lifelong friendships.

Nell was a dedicated homemaker who, in her younger years, enjoyed nothing more than spending time keeping up with friends near and far. She had a seemingly constant craft or home renovation project that reflected her southern style and flair.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jerry Saxon, and their three children: Mike Saxon and partner Amy Dillon, Rusty Saxon and wife Carla, and Jason Saxon and wife Susan. It is these sons whom she credited for her gray hair much too early. Nell is also survived by her sister, Jean Pody of Weogufka, Alabama, and beloved nieces.

Nell took immense pride in being “Mimi” to her four grandchildren: Madelene Saxon, Gabe Saxon, Megan Saxon, and Tyler Saxon.

She will be remembered for her quick wit, her fierce loyalty to her family, and her expressive glares of displeasure when asked to do physical therapy when she was no longer able to communicate verbally.

The family would like to extend gratitude to the loving caregivers with Amada Home Health, River Landing of Sandy Ridge Rehabilitation, Brookdale Skeet Club, and Hospice of the Piedmont for their compassion and dedication.

A Celebration of Life Service will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
