Nellie Huffling Ballard

Mrs. Nellie Huffling Ballard, 96, a resident of Greensboro went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday February 1, 2014 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. Mrs. Ballard was born March 1, 1917 in Laurens County, SC , the daughter of Clingmon Harrison Huffling and Annie Iola Vaughan Huffling. She was a homemaker most of her life and a member of Guilford Baptist Church.

Nellie was dearly loved by her family and her friends and will be greatly missed by all.

She was married to John D. Ballard, Jr. for 62 years. He preceded her in death on December 11, 2000. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.

Surviving are one son, J. Wiley Ballard and wife Susan of Hickory; two daughters, Rebecca B. Shelar and husband Gary of Summerfield, Ruth B. Calahan and husband Tom with whom she resided for the past eight and a half years; one sister, Jeanette H. Edwards of High Point; nine grandchildren, Ann Ballard Hinson, Melissa Nell Shelar, Gregory C. Calahan, Johnna Ballard Harrelson, Amber Calahan Sublett, Preston Joseph Shelar, Matthew Gary Shelar, Jillian Calahan Collins, Adam Vaughan Shelar and eight great grandchildren, Garri Nicole Bolden, Ivy Marie Shelar, James McCray Hinson, Noah James Sublett, Natalie Anna Shelar, Austin Ray Shelar, John Caleb Sublett and Emily Ruth Sublett.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Guilford Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Gabe Galdo, Pastor of Westside Chapel. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park. Serving as active pallbearers will be Greg Calahan, Preston Shelar, Matthew Shelar, Adam Shelar, Jeff Sublett and Derek Collins. The family will receive friends at Guilford Baptist Church on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time and at other times at her home.
