Nellie Costner Strickland

Nellie was born in Lincoln County on December 27, 1916 to the late Hugh and Lois Costner. In 1943, she married the love of her life, the late John Strickland. Nellie and John were married for over 50 years.

Nellie will be remembered as a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She will also be remembered as a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. She was a charter member of Magnolia Street Baptist Church where she taught RA’s and GA’s as well as a young women’s Sunday School class. Nellie loved teaching others about Jesus and how to have a relationship with Him.

She is survived by her children, Bill Strickland (Diana) and Bob Strickland (Lois) and her sister, Betty Masters. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jennifer Pratt (Billy), Natalie Maness (Brian), and Bobby Strickland; great grandchildren, Will and Connor Pratt, Drew, Sydney and Jake Maness. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Harry, Charles, Bill, and Pete Costner.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. in the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407 conducted by Billy Pratt. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors on Thursday evening at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The family would also like to thank the staff at Clapp’s Assisted Living for the outstanding care that she has received there over the past four years.
