Nelson was a devoted father, brother, uncle, and friend whose presence left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He is survived by his son, Nelson Christian Brooks, and his beloved bonus children, Katelynne Grace Brooks and James Arlington Upchurch. He is also survived by his siblings, Norris Brooks, Kenneth Brooks, Cindy Brooks, and Angie Buchanan, along with his cherished nieces, Brison Tousey, Ryland Tousey, Jadyn Buchanan, and Clara McCormick, and nephews, Cody Brooks and Conrad Brooks.
Nelson loved the outdoors and found joy in simple things. Whether he was working in the yard, caring for a lawn, or simply enjoying nature, he felt most at peace under the open sky. He had a wild-child spirit and lived life in the moment. Those who knew him best knew that he had a special gift for making small moments matter. A flower picked along the way, a handwritten note, a thoughtful trinket, or a simple act of kindness—these were the ways Nelson showed his love.
His life was not without challenges. Nelson battled addiction for many years, but through determination and faith, he overcame it in 2025. While addiction was part of his story, it never defined who he was. His loving heart, generous spirit, and willingness to help others were the qualities that truly defined his life. No matter what season he found himself in, Nelson never stopped caring for others. If someone was in need, he would gladly give them whatever he had.
Nelson loved Jesus and held his faith close to his heart. He loved his family deeply and treasured the relationships that meant the most to him. Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, those who loved him take comfort in knowing that he is now at peace and free from all earthly struggles.
Nelson will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity, his free spirit, and the love he shared so freely with others. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by his compassion.
"One day" was a phrase Nelson often said as he dreamed of what was ahead. Today, those who loved him hold onto the hope that one day they will see him again.
