

A celebration of life will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Hanes-Lineberry Vanstory Chapel, located at 1900 Vanstory St., Greensboro, NC 27403. All family and friends are welcome to join in honoring her life.
Nettie Jo was born in New York City on November 3, 1935 to the late Joseph Brewer and Theresa Schultz Brewer. When she was only ten weeks old, the family returned to Greensboro, where Jo grew up. Nettie graduated from high school in Greensboro and was married in her early life to John Alexis Jones, who became City Manager of Wilmington, NC. She later married Al Sharp in 1975. In 1976, Nettie Jo graduated summa cum laude from UNC-Wilmington in Psychology. She went on to have a successful career in human resource management. During her professional life she worked at the National Council of the Aging and American Life Insurance Council in Washington, DC and at Research Triangle Institute in Research Triangle Park, NC. During her very mobile life, she lived in Richmond where she was active in little theatre and Turkey Hill, Loudoun County, both in Virginia and in Wilmington, Oxford, Raleigh, Chapel Hill and Lincoln County, all in North Carolina. Jo traveled enthusiastically with her husband Al, living for a number of years in Russia and Croatia. For the last twenty years of her life, she endured the increasing limitations brought on by early onset Alzheimer’s. She struggled to remain vital at each stage of the disease.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Albert Richard Sharp recently of Charlotte and now residing in Kure Beach, NC; son, Dr. J. Shaw Jones of Hamilton, VA; daughter-in-law, Dr. Virginia Chiantella; granddaughter, Catherine C. Jones; grandson, William R. Jones, all of Paeonian Springs, VA; and her cousins, Terry Bell Stone and Mark Bell of Greensboro.
