She was born February 25, 1932, in Murphysboro, Ill. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, John Henderson Shoun; her parents, Doyle and Vera Karraker; and sisters Evalina Hall and Karroll Bracey.
She is survived by her son John Shoun Jr. (Carol) of Crozet, Va.; daughter Lissa Shoun (Eric Bong) of San Jose, Calif.; son Andrew Shoun (Laura) of Greenville, S.C.; son Brian Shoun (Jill) of Peachtree City, Ga.; daughter Amy Yinger (Bill) of Wake Forest, N.C.; and son Hobson Shoun of Charlotte, N.C.; her seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and her brother, Al Karraker of Slidell, La.
Neva was devoted to her family and constant in her faith. She was a lifelong member of the Churches of Christ. During her marriage, she lived in eleven cities across six states. She was an anchor in each transition and quickly established “home” everywhere the family settled. Her work outside the home included several years at The ARC of Mississippi and North Carolina.
Throughout her life, she was known for her homemaking, arts and crafts skills, and warm hospitality. When not working on handicrafts or other projects, she loved to read.
A service of remembrance will be held at 3:00pm on November 11, 2023 at the May-Foley Chapel in the Twin Lakes Community (3801 Wade Coble Dr, Burlington, NC).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Twin Lakes Auxiliary.
