

Mr. Norman Lee Stewart, 77, passed away at home very peacefully with his loving family at his side on August 23, 2010. A Celebration of his Life will be held on Thursday, 1:00 pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel with Rev. Glen Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park.
Mr. Stewart was born in Jacksonville, FL, on August 14, 1933 to Hinton Smith Stewart and Helen Macomber Stewart. He served his country in the US Navy. Mr. Stewart was a life-long learner and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Accounting from the University of South Florida. His business career incorporated many positions with Burlington Industries including Assistant to Vice-President. He also directed the Internal Auditing Department of Novant Health for Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem as well as Charlotte Presbyterian Hospital until his retirement.
Norman lived life to the fullest. He was a boating and ski enthusiast in his earlier years and loved the outdoors. He cherished dancing with his wife. Sports were a passion, especially UNC-Chapel Hill events. There was nothing he enjoyed more than spending glorious fall Saturday afternoons in Keenan Stadium with his grandchildren and friends.
A man of honesty, integrity and fairness, he faithfully taught his children and grandchildren to respect and embrace these qualities He adored his grandchildren and celebrated their accomplishments. Norman dearly loved his wife Ann, there was nothing he wouldn't do for her. His family was the center of his life and he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Norman was active for many years with the Masons and a very giving man. As always, he was brave and faced his fate with courage. He will be sorely missed by all.
.Norman was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter, Dannah Mootassem. Surviving are his loving wife of 38 years, Elizabeth Ann Stewart of the home; children; Marty Mathews and wife Sandra and Kimberly Mathews Stanley and husband Dale, all of Greensboro, Melody Mathews Fagan and husband Sam of Charlotte, Norman Lee Stewart Jr. and wife Barbara of Auburndale, FL, Linda Stewart Coleman and husband Chris of Ocala, FL, Scott T. Stewart and wife Judy of Tallahassee, FL, Stephanie Diaz of Lakeland, FL; sister, Nancy Veacey and husband Hugh of Lake Placid, FL; grandchildren, Darris Mathews, Brittany Mathews, Munib Mootassem, Laya Fagan, Henry Fagan, Sammy Fagan and Zac Fagan, and devoted pet Casper.
The family wishes to thank all the many nurses of Wesley Long Hospital, Shannon Gray Rehabilitation and Recovery, and Hospice who cared for Mr. Stewart during his illness, and including all the friends and extended family members for their prayers and support. A special thank you to Norma Bennett and Dawn Watkins of Hospice, Georgeanne and Paul Amick, Jerry and Lisa Haire, and Susan Nelson.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:30 to 8:30pm at Hanes Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
The family requests memorial contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro or the Dannah Mootassem Reading Garden at Pilot Elementary School in Greensboro.
