

Mrs. Oleene Hamilton Lefler, 86, a resident of Greensboro died Saturday September 17, 2011 at the Moses H. Cone Hospital. Mrs. Lefler was born August 15, 1925 in Troy, the daughter of Rufus Garfield and Ada Mae Saunders Hamilton. She was a housewife, loving mother and wife. Her ministry was keeping babies in the church nursery so that parents could attend Sunday School and worship service. Oleene loved to cook, make sour dough bread, coffee cake and cake squares. She enjoyed talking to her “phone buddies” on the telephone. A longtime member of Florida Street Baptist Church; she loved the Lord and her church to the end. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Walton, Paul and Alvin Hamilton; sister, Gatha Jennings and a step-granddaughter, Lauren Dickson.
Surviving is her husband and sweetie of 66 years Marvin Thompson Lefler of the home; two daughters, Fonda Lefler Hilburn and husband Bill of Houston, TX, Annette Lefler Shumate and husband Danny of Greensboro and one son, Vernon Lefler and wife Louise of Kernersville and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Florida Street Baptist Church, 1403 W. Florida St., Greensboro, NC 27403 with the Reverend Robert Glasgow officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Dr., Greensboro, NC , the Gideon’s International or to Florida Street Baptist Church.
