

Otto Frederick “Fred” Vetter, 78, passed away on Friday, July 08, 2011, at High Point Regional Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July, 13, 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church 4145 Johnson Street, High Point, NC with Fr. Joseph Zuschmidt, O.S.F.S officiating. Burial will follow at Guilford Memorial Park 6000 High Point Rd, Greensboro, NC.
Fred was born in Portsmouth, OH on Nov. 6, 1932, the son of Otto M. and Agnus E. Schmank Vetter. He graduated from St. Mary’s High School and attended Xavier University. He was the Vice President and part owner of Henry Oberling Chrysler Ford Dealership in Portsmouth for 36 years until his retirement. He was an active member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church where he sang with the choir. He was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus, St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Elks Lodge, and was awarded the honor of being a Kentucky Colonel.
Upon Fred and Ruth coming to High Point, they became members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and also sang in the choir. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. He will be deeply missed.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Otto M. and Agnus E. Schmank Vetter, his brother, Ed Vetter, and his daughter, Colette M. Rastatter. Those surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth Ann Oberling Vetter; children, Otto Frederick Vetter Jr. and wife Beth, Jeffrey M. Vetter and wife Karen of Grove City, OH, Timothy M. Vetter of Tampa, FL, Michele Chucales and husband Arty and Mary Sue Hoppens and husband Kevin, all of High Point, NC; son-in-law, Dr. Michael Rastatter, husband of Colette (deceased) of Greenville, NC; grandchildren; Adam Vetter and Emily Vetter Curry, Nathan Vetter, Brett, Ashley, and Tate Chucales, David and Brian Rastatter; sisters, Mary Frances Bruck, Ann Oberling; brothers, Mark Vetter, Bob Vetter and George Vetter.
The family wishes to express their deep gratitude to Dr. George Sanders and the entire staff of the Oncology Department of High Point Regional Hospital for the love and care given to Fred over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials can made to the High Point Regional Cancer Center.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the church from 9:30 am until 10:45 am with Mass following at 11:00 am and burial services at Guilford Memorial Park.
