Pat D. Nelson departed this earthly life on July 8, 2026. She will be sadly missed and forever loved.
Pat was born in Summerfield, NC on August 4, 1941 to Irene Medearis Deaton and Joseph Curtis Deaton, Sr. After a few years the family moved to Greensboro, NC where Pat spent most of her childhood and early adult life. Participating in numerous church and school activities, she made lifetime friends along the way.
Following graduation from Greensboro Senior High School, Pat attended Guilford College, GTCC, and the NC Realtors' Institute. She joined Gilbarco when its global headquarters moved to Greensboro in 1960s, and later worked for Institute of Government and Public Affairs at University of California, Los Angeles.
On Valentine's day 1970, Pat married her sweetheart Bill V. Nelson. Together they embarked upon life's journeys that spanned many years and miles as they relocated for Bill's job. Eventually they settled in Oak Ridge, NC before Bill's passing in 2021.
In previous years, Pat volunteered at various nonprofit organizations and was very involved at schools her children attended. She also took an active interest in politics and served as poll worker and Precinct VP.
Pat lived simply, gave generously, loved sincerely, and moved through life with unwavering faith. Lights of her life were her children and grandchildren, and she took great joy in their talents and accomplishments.
Besides her parents and husband, Pat is predeceased by daughters, Jill Nelson and Tamara 'Tammy' Brogdon Bass; brothers, Rev. Dr. Joseph 'Joe' Deaton, Jr. and David Deaton.
Pat is survived by two children, Dr. Sherry V. Nelson of Albuquerque, NM and Bill V. Nelson, Jr. of Greensboro, NC; four grandchildren, Nicholas Bass (Whitney), Nina Bass Munda (Brad), Luke and Lily Muller; four great-grandchildren, Max and Phoebe Munda, Liam and Alice Bass.
Others blessed by Pat being in their lives include sister, Kay Deaton Layton (Bill), extended family members, treasured friends and adored cat Willie.
Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home (Sedgefield) assisted Nelson family with burial arrangements at Guilford Memorial Park, Greensboro, NC.
