Patrick Finn Phillips died November 10, 2019. His life continues in the memories of all who were touched by his love and inspired by his commitment to learning, his grasp of history, and his love of sports.
Patrick loved his family. He had a special gift for including everyone—family, friends, and even strangers—where his insatiable love of learning and his sensitivity found connections and brought others into the warmth of his presence.
Patrick was a consummate sports lover—soccer, golf, scuba diving, wake boarding, snow skiing. He was a talented participant and a patient teacher. At Western Guilford High School, Patrick received the Good Citizen Award from the Daughters of the American Revolution. An outstanding soccer player, Patrick was the North State 2A Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Year 2001-2002. He went on to play soccer at Greensboro College on a scholarship. He would later continue his education at UNC-Charlotte, where he was a proud member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a B.S. in Business Finance.
Patrick found his professional niche in finance. His knowledge of and enthusiasm for the details of his work engaged the interest of even those who knew little about finance. Patrick developed and used his knowledge as a financial analyst at Wells Fargo and Bank of America. His most recent growth in the field focused on the broader global context in which finance must operate.
Patrick is survived by his mother and stepfather, Soozi and Jeff Kellum; his brother Quinn Phillips, sister-in-law Kristen, and beloved nieces Leanna and Gracie; his grandparents Matrena Finn Hunter, Mack and Barbara Kennedy; and his cherished aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father Wesley Reid Phillips, his grandfather Dr. James C. Finn, and his step-grandfather Dr. M. Ray Hunter.
A celebration of Patrick’s life will take place on Sunday, December 8, 2019 beginning at 11:30 am.
