Peggy was born in Danville, VA on December 16, 1932, the daughter of the late James and Sallie Booth Carter.
In her formative years she held jobs ranging from telephone operator to usher at a local theater. In 1955, she went to work at Cone Mills Corporation as a cloth inspector and remained in their employe until she retired in 1993 as Lead Key Punch/Data Entry/Control Operator.
On May 8, 1952, she married Melvin Lee Hatcher, who predeceased her in 1996.
She is survived by her son, Melvin Lee Hatcher, Jr., daughter-in-law, Aleatha Ziegler Hatcher and a cousin, Larry Richardson.
A brief graveside service will be conducted at Westminster Gardens Cemetery. 3601 Whitehurst Road, Greensboro, NC 27410 on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 1:00 PM.
