
Peggy Josephine Neill Stokes, 77, passed away on March 14, 2017 at Davie Med Center in Mocksville, NC. She was born in Guilford County on March 3, 1940, the daughter of Thomas Francis and Mary Ida Ewing Neill. She was a graduate of Greensboro Senior High and Greensboro College. She spent her career as a Special Education teacher at Gateway and retired after 17 1/2 years of service. She loved teaching those children. She was a member of Moravia Moravian Church in Oak Ridge, NC. Peggy loved to sing in the church choir and was with them during the Christmas program. She always worked the Easter egg hunt at the church and loved making chicken pies. She was very active in the Women’s Fellowship. She played the piano and enjoyed needlepoint. She also loved to garden. Peggy opened the door of her home to many a stray cat and made them part of her family. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed.
Peggy is survived by her son, Robert Terrance Stokes of Mocksville, NC; sister, Claire N. Phillips of Greensboro, NC; nephew, Justin V. Phillips and wife Calley LaRoach Phillips of Greensboro, NC and niece, Chandra P. Cahoon and husband Stephen Glenn Cahoon of Raleigh. NC
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held on Monday, 1:00 pm at the Moravia Moravian Church, 2920 Oak Ridge Road, Oak Ridge, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
