She was an avid tennis player and golfer who also enjoyed biking and walking in her neighborhood greeting her many friends along the way.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Wharton, son Scott L. Wharton, sister Doris Lee Watkins Fant and brother William T. Watkins. She is survived by daughter Emily Piercefield and her husband Doug of Juneau, Alaska, niece Margaret (Marty) Hartmann and partner Charlie Perkinson of Bent Mountain, Virginia, niece Lynn Darnell Thompson of Greensboro, nephew Robert Darnell and family of Bethesda, Maryland, niece Marcy Fisk and husband Steve of Roanoke, Virginia, and great-nephew Erich Hartmann and family of Ardsley, New York.
Peggy will be lovingly remembered as a kind and giving person whose humble, gentle nature and dry wit endeared her to all who had the fortune of knowing her. The family greatly appreciates all the wonderful care and attention she received from the staff at Well-Spring.
