Phala Vick Jones

Mrs. Jones was born September 18, 1914 in Roanoke Rapids, NC to the late Mark and Zillah Vick.

Phala was married to her beloved husband, the late Edward Lee Jones, for 63 years. She is survived by her children: Phala Starnes of Monroe, NC, Edward Jones, Jr. of Elk Grove Village, Illinois, John David Jones and his wife, Jan, of Laurens, SC, and William Vick Jones of Greensboro. She was the grandmother of Melanie, Mark, Mary Beth, Joy, Matthew and Michael and the great-grandmother of nine great-grandchildren.

Phala and her husband were charter members of Westover Church where they generously supported missions and enjoyed hosting missionaries on furlough. For over 30 years, she nurtured children’s faith as a Sunday School teacher and is lovingly remembered for the lemon drops she gave her students each week. Mrs. Jones was president of the Christian Women’s Club in Greensboro and spent many hours of her life praying for family and friends. Her energy, faith and optimism were a blessing to those around her.

The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from10:45 AM until 11:30 AM at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel in Greensboro. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM. The burial will follow at Westminster Gardens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Westover Church Missionary Fund, 505 Muirs Chapel Rd., Greensboro, NC 27410 in memory of Phala Vick Jones..
