Philip Charles Gauthier, aged 64, passed peacefully Thursday after a long illness. Phil was born in Nashua, NH on July 30, 1950 to Raymond Ernest Gauthier and Lucille Pauline (Gaudette). He attended Catholic schools and entered St. Anthony Friary in Hudson, New Hampshire as a Capuchin to study for the priesthood. This was not his true calling though, so Phil left the brotherhood and studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lowell in Massachusetts. He completed his Bachelors and Masters degrees and worked in his chosen field for his entire career. Most recently, Phil worked for PPG Industries of Lexington, NC. He was a mechanical and structural engineer in their fiberglass division, building large-scale industrial glass furnaces.
Phil traveled extensively for work and leisure but was a homebody at heart. He loved to cook and was happiest putting on a ‘spread’ for friends. Phil was also very musical and played guitar and sang. He was a proud member of the Triad Pride Men’s Chorus of Greensboro. He cherished the camaraderie and the close friendships he developed there.
Phil is predeceased by his longtime partner James R. Perry, of Greensboro, NC. He is survived by his sister Catherine Richard and her husband Michael, of New Boston, NH, his brother Richard Gauthier of Quincy, MA, and his sister Amy Bailey of Methuen, MA. He also leaves a niece Sarah Cooper, her husband Shawn and son Dayton, of Wellesley, MA and nephews Ryan and Garrett Gauthier, both of Raymond, NH, as well as many loving friends.
A memorial service will be held at the Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home, 515 N. Elm Street, Greensboro, NC on Sunday May 24 at 10:00 am. There will be no calling hours or graveside service.
