Mrs. Pinky O'Shea

Pinky Rebecca Fowler O’Shea passed early on the morning of November 22, 2013.

Her funeral service will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at the Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.

Pinky was born on March 3, 1917 in Athens, Georgia, the youngest daughter of John B. and Nellie Mae Almond Fowler. She was married in 1946 to her loving husband of 51 years Dr. John Augustus O’Shea, Jr, Cdr. USN, whom she met in Athens while he was attending the Naval Flight School at the University of Georgia during WWII.

Pinky was preceded in death by her husband “Jack”, daughter Patricia Slacum, her brothers Harry and J.B. Fowler and sisters Betty Hearn, Alice Nell Foster and Marguerite Burke.

Pinky is survived by her daughter Teresa O’Shea Orsini of Charlotte, North Carolina and sons Michael J. O’Shea of Arlington, Texas, Thomas E. O’Shea and wife Louise, Daniel B. O’Shea and wife Andrea both of Greensboro, North Carolina, Seamus P. O’Shea and wife Leigh Anne of Powder Springs, Georgia and son-in-law Harold Ward Slacum, Col. USMC Retired and wife Mary of East New Market, Maryland.

She was the proud grandmother of Kristine Slacum Nossick, Ward Slacum, Jr. and wife Julie, John-Michael Brendan O’Shea, Meaghan O’Shea Clayton and husband Justin, Erin Orsini Balthasar and husband Frank, Ryan Andrew O’Shea and wife Shannon, Sean Patrick O’Shea, Kevin Thomas O’Shea, Caitlin Rebecca and Tara Marie O’Shea. Pinky also has four great grandchildren, Kristian Slacum, Michael and Madelyn Nossick, Keegan Jeffery and Caeden Thomas Clayton and Sofia Marie Balthasar and a great-great grandson Hayden O’Shea Jones.

While raising a family as a Navy wife, Pinky traveled the country and the world; from Athens, Georgia to Brooklyn, New York, from Jacksonville, Florida to Quonset Point, Rhode Island, from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to Olathe, Kansas, from Honolulu, Hawaii to Yokohama, Japan, from Corpus Christie, Texas to Atsugi, Japan, from Kingsville, Texas to Brunswick, Georgia then on to Southern Maryland and our nation’s capital.

After Jack’s retirement they continued to travel the world and sailing its seas from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean. After the passing of her daughter Patricia, Pinky joined her daughter Teri and sons Tom and Dan and their families in Greensboro, North Carolina where she spent the last remaining years of her full life.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society @

Romans 5:8 says :"But God recommends his own love to us in that,while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." God is here for us to give us his own love. Imagine the love of a God? It would be able to help us in times like these when loved ones have passed away. It's a beautiful scripture.
