R. Dale Gipple, 69, of Jamestown, passed away unexpectedly, following a brief illness, on Friday, June 1, 2018. A memorial service celebrating Dale’s life will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until 1:00 pm prior to the service. A native of Burlington, NC, Dale attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he proudly played basketball for Dean Smith from 1969 until 1971. In the years following his graduation, he began his 35 year career with Nike Athletic Shoes, where he made many cherished friends. Dale’s passions in his life included his family, friends, traveling, Carolina basketball, golf, golf, and more golf. Above all else, he loved making people smile. Everyone who knew Dale will remember his sense of humor and infectious laugh. A generous and thoughtful man, he constantly went out of his way to brighten the days of all who were fortunate enough to know him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Debbie; his two children, Spencer and Emmie; brother, Arthur and sister-in-law, Dona; along with countless other family members and friends. In lieu of flowers or memorials, please pay a good deed forward, make someone smile, and as Dale would say, “Have a Tip Top Day”. Dear Gipple Family-

Dale was one of the all-time great NIKE salespeople; it was my honor to work alongside him and call him a teammate. He was smart,
willing to try new things, fun-loving and had respect for his colleagues and the good people who supported our brand.

I always loved seeing Gip and am so thankful to have known him; my condolences to the family and thank you for sharing him with us.

With Respect,

Heidi Simmons

Dear Gipple Family - I have worked at Nike for 20+ years, mostly in the Dallas office. While I did not work with Dale, I knew of him and his infectious smile & laugh, often through stories of some of other long-time sales folks. I hope you find comfort in knowing that even those of us that didn't know him personally could easily see and feel his positive energy which makes your request of good deeds feel just right.

With Sympathy & Kind Regards,
Heidi Simmons

From one Gip to another, Dale will surely be missed. Dale was one of the first people I met at Nike...upon checking into the hotel for my very first sales meeting, the front desk informed me that my husband, Dale, had already checked in & that my luggage was in the room. I was so excited to be in the presence of another Gipple.. but maybe not as my roommate! After a bunch of laughs, it all got sorted out & I introduced myself to "Uncle Dale". (I have no idea if/how we're related but I'd like to think we most certainly were because he was sunshine!) My thoughts & prayers go out to the entire family & extended network of friends. He will be missed!

I am so honored to have known Dale and the memories he left for me will live on forever. He was loved by so many and he will be sorely missed.

Dale's Carolina blue, button down oxford shirt and khaki pants and contagious smile will always hold a place in my heart.
No matter how the meetings went-laughter and jokes made even the worse ones enjoyable. I do not believe he ever met a stranger, he had a kind word for everyone. I am praying for his family and asking our Lord to send peace and grace during this most difficult time.

Those giant hugs, and contagious smile. I'll always remember those, and I feel honored to be a recipient of them.
You'll be missed my brother. Sending love, comfort, and cyber-hugs to the family...

Your Nike Sister, Carlecia

I was saddened to learn of the passing of your husband/dad today. I remember so many times his bringing Spencer and Emmie to the office. And though, there were difficult times, he always had that smile. Both of you helped make my job a little easier with your kind and understanding nature. Please know I share good memories with y'all and share in your loss. Please let Spencer (especially) and Emmie know I'm thinking of them as well.
