Mr. Deatherage, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 10, 2019 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro, NC. Ralph will be fondly and forever remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, and generous friend and neighbor. He was born January 13, 1937, in Greensboro, NC, to the late Ada and Walter Deatherage.
Ralph was a prominent local businessman and entrepreneur, a retired Captain in the North Carolina National Guard, and involved in state and local politics. He was active in his church, Immanuel Baptist Church, and his community.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 60 years, Vera Mae Russell Deatherage; children, Donna Marie Deatherage Hancock and husband John of South Riding, VA, and Russell Dalton Deatherage of Andros Island, Bahamas; grandchildren Zachary, James, and Emily Hancock and Isabella and Kayla Deatherage; his brother Clyde Deatherage; nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and the many friends he made along the way. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers and four sisters.
The funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel. The family visitation will be held prior to the service, from 11:00- 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park immediately following the funeral.
