

Ralph Hanna Hurley, 95, died on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, 2012 at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel in Greensboro conducted by Pastor John Sides. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.
Ralph was born October 16, 1917 in Montgomery County, North Carolina, a son of Jesse Bradley Hurley and Ornie Russell Hurley. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1934. He served in the Army during World War II, along with six of his eight brothers. He returned from the war and married Carolyn Wilson on October 24, 1945. She preceded him in death on March 14, 1981.
Ralph joined his younger brother Leonard in the operation of a grocery store in Archdale called “Hurley’s Grocery” for more than 25 years. After that he spent many of his retirement years gardening, landscaping and clearing the trails of the Piedmont Environmental Center. He renewed a childhood friendship with Helen Wall and they were married on January 3, 2005. Helen preceded him in death on November 30, 2010. He was also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Ralph is survived by three children, Eric Wilson Hurley and wife Linda of Holly Lake, Texas, Suzanne Hurley Taylor and husband William of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, and Edward Land Hurley of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; a grandson, Neil Hurley Taylor of Conifer, Colorado; and two brothers, M. Ray Hurley of Greensboro, and William (Bill) Hurley of Trinity.
Ralph will be remembered as a humble, patient, devoted and gentle man.
