Palm Coast, FL, Ralph Lowry Jr., 71 also of Greensboro, died unexpectedly on May 31, 2014. A funeral service will be at 2 PM, Friday, June 6 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel followed by interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:45 to 1:45 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Ralph was born in Tazewell County, VA to the late Ralph and Hazel Goodwin Lowry. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was employed with Wrenn Handling for over twenty five years as a forklift mechanic. He will be remembered as an outspoken man who was willing to share his thoughts and honest opinions even though sometimes unsolicited. Ralph had a wide range of interests and loved to share them with his family. He and his wife of forty-seven years, Phyllis (Jayne) Proctor Lowry traveled all over the country enjoying each other’s and the company of the many friends they met. He was so supportive of his children and their interests whether attending car shows with Tim or teaching Wende (Daddy’s girl) how to hunt and horseback ride. He made sure they knew they could accomplish anything but even when they needed some advice they knew who to call. He enjoyed staying busy whether helping the kids, working on a project or taking on the impressive task of building his own home in Boone. When the grandchildren and great grandchildren came along he loved spending time with them just as much as with his own children. Brittany and PaPaw loved to go fishing together and Logan enjoyed going to the flea market every Saturday morning. He would captivate them all with his stories, sometimes repeating them but with a new twist. He was a smart man who worked hard, enjoyed life and always made time for his family.
Surviving Ralph are his wife and best friend, Phyllis (Jane); children, Wende (Bobby) Woods of Eden, Tim (Jenny) Lowry of Greensboro, Deena (Chuck) Willis of SC, Debbie Valis Flynn of SC, and Dwight Valis; grandchildren, Logan, Leah, Brittany, Megan, Mirranda, Kammi, Tristan, and Charles, great grandchildren, Teryn, Lillie, Raelyn and Ayla; siblings; Becky, Diana, Gerry, Roger, and Cheryl; several nieces and nephews; and extended family. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael R. Lowry in 1976.
Floral tributes are welcome or memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in memory of Michael R. Lowry. Online condolences may be made to www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com.
