

Ray was born in Chatham County, NC on April 20,1943, to the late Myra Beryl Buckner and Raymond Walker Woodburn. Ray moved to Greensboro where he graduated from Greensboro High School. He joined the US Army Reserve after graduation and began a long career with Carolina Steel. Ray met and later married Sharon "Sherry" Wilson also of Greensboro. They shared 58 years of a wonderful life together.
Ray was devoted to Jesus and his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by their 5 children: Leslie (Martin) Schreiner of Raleigh, Jeffrey (John Bailey) Woodburn of Greensboro, Amy (Dean) Carlson of Warren, MI, Christy (Robert) Eubank of Apollo Beach, FL and Sharon "Rae" (Wendell) Amos of Walkertown, NC; 5 grandchildren: Adam (Amanda) Schreiner, Scott (Holly) Schreiner, Ava Carlson, Loren Amos and Austin Amos; one great grandchild: Elise Schreiner. He loved all of them very much including his dog Chloe who had a special place in his heart.
Ray was an active member of the Civitan and Lions Clubs in Guilford County. He especially enjoyed volunteering for the Blind Bowlers' Convention. Ray played softball for many years with area church teams.
A memorial service is planned for Saturday, September 17 at 3pm at Trinity Church, 5200 West Friendly Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27410. The family will gather after the service at the church to receive family and friends.
