Rebecca Hodgin Layton

Rebecca Jane Layton, 82, a resident of Greensboro, passed away on Wednesday March 18, 2026. She was born June 17, 1943, in Guilford County, the daughter of the late Harold Issac and Lillian Garrett Hodgin.

Rebecca was a member of the graduating class of 1961 at Ragsdale High School in Jamestown. She worked for 36 years with the Greensboro News & Record and finished her career working with the Editorial Dept. She was a member for 55 years at Rolling Roads Baptist Church. Active in her church, she was a leader for the small groups at the church and for over 40 years was a member of the Bible Study Fellowship. She taught Sunday School at the former Oakhurst Rest Home in Greensboro.

She is survived by her husband of 61years, David Thomas Layton; four sons, Harold Alan Layton and wife Vicki of Greensboro, David Dwayne Layton and wife Stacy of High Point, Barry Thomas Layton and wife Stacy of Bassett, VA, Christopher Wayne Cassell and wife Christy of Julian; three sisters, Ronda Odenwelder and husband Jerry of Jamestown, Janice Rollings and husband John of Quinton, VA, Lu Ann Collier and husband Mac of South Chesterfield, VA and three grandchildren, Wyatt David Layton, Lyla Lowe Layton and Bowman Thomas Layton.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 on Thursday March 26, 2026, at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Rebecca’s memory to the charity of the donor’s choice.
