Rex Gilbert Ireland

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, February 23, 2024 at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407 with Rev. Dr. Jay Smith officiating. A reception will follow immediately after the funeral service. The family will receive friends and loved ones one hour prior to the funeral from 1:00 until 2:00 pm at the funeral home.

Rex was born in Phoenix, Arizona on November 2, 1952 to the late Clarence Kenneth Ireland and Mary Lou Baker Ireland. He retired from the US Postal Service after over 25 years of service. Rex was a 10 time National Roller Skating Champion and loved his skating family. He enjoyed playing his guitars, loved spending time at the beach with family and friends, was an avid Fisherman, and was a Boat Builder with a deep enthusiasm for photography. Rex was a loving and devoted father, brother, uncle and friend who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Diana Ireland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Brittany Ireland and Blake Ireland; sisters, Bonnie Ireland and Tina Ireland Yow; nieces and nephews, Kelly Palmer (Joey), Kimberly Self (Robert), Dana Gongaware, Conner Palmer, Caiden Palmer, Maddox Self and Easton Self; and other extended family and friends.
