Ray had a heart for service to others, which he expressed in numerous ways. He demonstrated his love for his country by serving 18 years in the US Air Force followed by working as a Montana Highway Patrolman and Deputy with the Mineral County Sherriff’s Department. He was a man of quiet but strong faith, who dedicated his life to Christ and was active in Socastee United Methodist Church of Myrtle Beach, SC. He arrived at church extra early to welcome everyone on Sunday mornings with a hot cup of coffee and chocolate. He was well remembered by his neighbors and friends in Myrtle Beach as someone who always had the time and energy to be of assistance.
Ray is now reunited with the love of his life, Josephine “Jo” George Rickan, who preceded him in death, July 3, 1993 as well as his parents and three brothers. He leaves behind his caregivers Tammy (Tam) Johnson who he considered his daughter and she is thankful to have been able to care for him in her home for (8) very special days with Bruce Smith who helped as Ray’s body became weaker, also friends, Win and Lin Johnson and Chris Bagwell for praying with him.
A special thank you to his church friends at Socastee United Methodist Church who came and sat with him before moving Ray to North Carolina, Jennifer Fortune, Bill Golden, Tom and Alice King, Richard Culberson, Roger Kennedy, Ann Bulda, and Pastor Kurt McPherson for his many phone prayers with Ray.
Tam would like to express her appreciation for the love and tender care of Jen Somers (Hospice RN), Marissa Gamble (Hospice LSW), Karen McCutcheon, MD (Hospice MD) and Reverend Rebecca Aikens at Palladium Hospice in Myrtle Beach and the entire AuthoraCare staff for the (10) days Ray was in their care at Beacon Place.
