Richard Frederick Capps, Jr began his journey on July 21, 2024 to be with his beloved wife, Martha in Heaven. She's in his arms again!! He is having an amazing Heavenly Homecoming with her!! All our pain and sorrow is eclipsed by their joy!! We love and miss them beyond words!
Upon his arrival he was greeted by his loving wife, Martha Ann Key Capps; his parents, Richard Frederick Capps, Sr and Azilee Gertrude Livengood Capps Cox; his infant daughter, Debrah Ann Capps; his brother, Barry Dale Capps; his nephews, William Richard Capps and Barry Allen Capps.
He will be sadly missed by his daughters, Shela Lynn Holm (Eric) and Cherri Lee Brown (David); his granddaughter, Brianna Kaleigh Pierce; numerous other family members; his "adopted" daughter, Pam Tucker who gave him lots of loving care in his time of need. His voluntary Service Dog, Bison; and the rest of his support crew including Baxter, Baby girl, Precious, Samus, RJ, Momo, Que and Eeyore are devastated. They all loved their time with their "Pa".
He served two tours in the US Army during the Vietnam War where he was awarded numerous medals. When he came home from Vietnam he moved his family from Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC to McLeansville NC. While there he joined and served with the Army National Guard in Greensboro, NC. He worked for Western Electric, Sears, Singer Inc., and United States Postal Service while his family settled into their new home. In the early 80's he moved his family to Browns Summit. NC and eventually in the early 90's retired from the Postal Service. Dad and Mom enjoyed their retirement years together working on the numerous flower gardens around their home and collecting a variety of Christmas Decorations. They had a Christmas room that overflowed into the rest of their home. They enjoyed having friends and family over to share their joy of Christmas.
He was a member of Guilford Masonic Lodge #657 from 1975 until 2020 when his beloved wife became ill and he dedicated every moment to her. He was also a member of the Guilford Chapter #141 Order of the Eastern Star. He served two terms as Worthy Patron with his wife, Martha and one term with his daughter, Shela.
He was a loving husband, son, brother, father, uncle and grandfather. He was kind, generous, loving and loyal to his family and friends. He regularly donated to several charities that held a special place in his heart. We love Dad and Mom dearly and will miss having them in our daily lives. We gather strength by knowing they are once again together.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 29, 2024 at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407. Family will receive friends and loved one from 12:00 until 12:45 PM prior to the graveside service at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel.
