A funeral service will be held Tuesday, 2:00 p.m., at Lawndale Baptist Church by Dr. Joe Giartelli. Burial will follow at Westminster Gardens.
Richard was born May 6, 1934 in Birmingham, AL, the son of Roy Clayton and Bessie Culver Clayton.
Richard was a under graduate of Georgia Tech and received his MBA from UNCG. He was the owner of Clayton Interiors and was a member of the Civitans Club and the Executive Committee for the Republican Party. Richard enjoyed playing tennis and was very good at it. He enjoyed spending time at the Greensboro Country Club and being around people. Most of all, Richard was a proud member of Lawndale Baptist Church where he was a deacon as well as the former chairman of the deacon’s, superintendent of the Adult Sunday School, and RA Director.
Surviving are his wife, Raydean Clayton, daughter, Leslie Edwards of San Diego, CA; son, Rev. Alan Clayton of Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Matthew and Michael Clayton and Christina Coy; great grandchildren, Kiley and Gracie Clayton and Grant Coy.
Friends will be received Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service,
