Richard “Lee” York passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on June 26, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m., at the home he shared with his beloved life partner, Susie Reid. He passed away due to heart failure. While his family deeply mourns his loss, they also rejoice in the faith that sustained him throughout his life and the legacy of love, laughter, and devotion he leaves behind.
Lee was born to Richard Herman Jones and Mary Louise Jones, whose love and guidance helped shape the man he would become. He is survived by his loving children, Christopher Lee York and Melodie York Thatch; his cherished grandson, Wilder Lennon York; his life partner, Susie Reid; his siblings, Doug Jones, Marie Jones Bean, and Joey Jones; and his nieces and nephews, Kyle, Hannah, Paige, Zach, Kalie, Jessica, and Natalie. He also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ who were blessed by his presence.
A man of deep and unwavering Christian faith, Lee dedicated his life to serving God and others. He participated in several ministries over the years, including a long-standing prison ministry through which he shared compassion, encouragement, and the message of hope with countless individuals. His faith was not merely something he believed—it was something he lived daily.
One of Lee’s greatest joys was being a father. He often shared that when each of his children was an infant, he held them up in prayer and dedicated them to God. This act reflected the deepest desires of his heart: that his children would know the love, grace, and faithfulness of the Lord he served throughout his life.
Professionally, Lee spent most of his life working as a residential and commercial painter. He took pride in hard work, providing for his family, and building lasting relationships with those whose lives he touched along the way.
Outside of work, Lee found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. He loved music and was an accomplished drummer who enjoyed sharing his passion with others. He treasured time spent fishing, relaxing at the beach, and being with family and friends. Above all, Lee loved to make people laugh. His sense of humor was one of his defining characteristics, and he brought joy to countless gatherings with his quick wit and playful nature.
His children especially remember his unique gift for laughter. Lee famously created his own language of cheerful gibberish and invented words that made little sense to anyone outside the family—but were guaranteed to bring smiles and laughter to those he loved most. These moments of joy became cherished memories and remain part of the lasting legacy he leaves behind.
Lee will be remembered as a faithful servant of God, a devoted father and grandfather, a loving partner, a caring brother, a loyal friend, and a man whose humor could brighten even the hardest days. His life was marked by faith, service, kindness, and an enduring ability to make others feel loved.
Though his earthly journey has ended, the memories he created and the lives he touched will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
The family has chosen to hold a private memorial service to celebrate Lee’s life.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
Lee will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
