

Robert John Ames, aged 86, passed away on April 27, 2026. He was born on August 13, 1939, in Meriden, Connecticut, to Edward and Helen Cebrelli Ames. After living in Binghamton, New York for over sixty years, he had recently relocated to Greensboro, North Carolina.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, May 23 at 10am at St. Mary’s of the Assumption, 37 Fayette Street, Binghamton, NY. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, 501 Fairview Street, Johnson City. Reception at Grande, 1250 Front Street, Binghamton, at 12:30pm.
Bob received his bachelor’s degree from Penn State University, Scranton in 1961 and his master’s degree from Penn State University, Main in 1963. He spent 42 years as a math teacher, department head, and administrator, and coached football for 31 years at Chenango Valley Central School District. Renowned for his charisma and enthusiasm, Bob made a strong impact on his students and his coworkers.
He enjoyed golf, staying active at the YMCA, and valued routine and camaraderie. He was a member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Binghamton, NY.
Bob was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Patricia Bonavita Ames and grandson Nicholas Ames.
Surviving is his son, Rob Ames (Michele) of Greensboro, NC; brother, Jack Ames of Baltimore, Md; and one granddaughter, Molly Pelta (Adam)
