Robert "Bob" Darden Benson

Robert “Bob” Darden Benson, 90, a resident of Greensboro passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 9 th, 2019 at his home in the presence of his family. He was born April 18, 1928 in Norfolk, VA the son of the late Henry Alton and Magdalene Darden Benson.

Robert worked with the Gulf Oil Corporation for 35 years until his retirement. He was a member of Jamestown Presbyterian Church. Besides being a great story-teller, he was a much loved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Early Benson of the home; a brother, John Samuel Benson of Oak Island, NC; daughters, Judith Benson “Judy” Fitchett and husband Art of Jamestown, NC; Shawn Adams Nollen and husband Mike of Bethlehem, GA; and sons, Robert A. “Bob” Benson and wife Kathy of Greensboro, NC; Stephen Lawrence “Larry” Benson and wife Sheila of the Outer Banks, NC. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Laurie Kovarik, Zack Benson, Emily Frey, Bethany McKenney, Susanna McDonald, Chris Fitchett, Brian Fitchett and Adam Fitchett and 15 great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 15th at Jamestown Presbyterian Church conducted by Reverend Dr. Jay D. Smith. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service.
