Robert Wade Campbell, age 78, was born on July 13, 1945 in Sparta, Illinois to Paul B. and LaVon Campbell ,and passed away on March 16, 2024 in Greensboro, NC. Wade and family moved to Stillwater in 1975. He lived in Stillwater until 2021 when he moved to Greensboro, NC to be closer to his youngest grandchildren.
Wade is survived by: Elizabeth Newbold Campbell, whom he married in May 1969 and later divorced. They have one daughter, Rori Ann McPherson, (Kent), Edmond, OK, one son R Wade Campbell, (Jeanne), Greensboro, NC., and four grandchildren, Connor McPherson, Jordyn McPherson, R Wade Silger Campbell, and Grace Martin Campbell. Wade is survived by a very special friend, Lisa Whitworth, Stillwater, OK.
Wade was preceded in death by his parents and one sister-in-law, Donna Campbell. He is survived by his siblings, Paul S. Campbell, Nancy Orum (Chip), and Phyllis Fay Campbell (Randy Allen); many nieces and nephews, and a bus load of cousins.
Wade grew up playing in “the creek” near Sparta and various fun locations in southern IL, with his brother and best buddy, Paul. The family lived in several small towns in southern Illinois and settled in Carthage, IL in 1957 where he graduated high school in 1963. He joined the Army that year and served in Korea in the Army Aircorp Korean Military Adviser Group. After leaving the army he worked in several occupations before becoming an operating room technician, a career that he dearly loved.
Wade, named for an uncle, was called R Wade by family, which many people interpreted as “Our Wade.” He was indeed “Our Wade” to his family. It was only natural that he name his son R, and that R name his son R. He is Pops to his grandchildren.
Wade was more charming than any man has a right to be. He could find and share a good time in the middle of a rain storm. He had more than his share of tragedy in his life, but he preferred to dwell on the fun stuff. A good Scot to the end, he got knocked down, but he got up again. He loved the outdoors, animals, the St. Louis Cardinals, and most of all, his family.
Everywhere he went, Wade made friends and all of them will miss him.
