Robert James George

Robert James George, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2026, at the age of 89.Born on February 12, 1937, Robert lived a full and interesting life, filled with family, adventure, hard work, faith, and a love of learning and creating. Throughout his 89 years, he collected countless experiences, stories, accomplishments, and memories that will continue to live on through the many people whose lives he touched.

Robert proudly served for six years in the United States Marine Corps Reserve, where he earned numerous honors, including recognition as an expert marksman. His military service reflected many of the qualities that would define him throughout his life—dedication, perseverance, pride, and a willingness to learn and master whatever he put his mind to.

Robert was the devoted husband of Peggy George, with whom he shared 44 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories. Their story began with their very first date on Christmas Day in 1975, and continued through decades of love, family, adventures, and shared experiences.Together, Robert and Peggy were part of a blended family of eight children: Gene and Dayle Cairrikier, Diane Cairrikier, Saressa Osborne, Allen Cairrikier, Terry Cairrikier (deceased) and his wife Patsy Cairrikier, David and Robin George, Jim Cairrikier, and Lori and Owen Holder. He was also blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.

Robert wore many titles throughout his life—husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. And, as he would probably appreciate being reminded, even his titles show just how great he was.

There were many things Robert loved. He loved to dance roller skate, earning a wall full of medals along the way. His Christian faith was an important part of his life, and he loved singing in the church choir. Robert was a mechanic at heart and could fix just about anything that was broken. If something needed repairing, he was the person who wanted to figure it out. He loved working with his hands and had a talent for carpentry, creating many beautiful pieces that reflected his skill, patience, and pride in his work.

He also loved the water and owned several boats throughout the years. Never one to stop learning, Robert studied to become a licensed captain simply because he wanted to learn how to do it.

He took great pride in his home and especially his yard, always wanting it to look its very best. In fact, true to who he was, he was still out mowing the yard the day before he became sick.

Robert spent 36 years working for P. Lorillard before retiring. His work ethic was another reflection of the man he was—dependable, determined, and committed.But beyond the accomplishments, hobbies, skills, and titles, Robert's greatest legacy is his family and the people who knew and loved him. His life became intertwined with the lives of so many others. He leaves behind more than memories; he leaves pieces of himself in the children he helped raise, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him, the things he built with his hands, the lessons he taught, the stories that will be told, and the traditions that will continue.

His passing leaves a space that cannot be filled. Those who loved Robert will grieve his absence, but they will also carry with them the laughter, stories, lessons, adventures, and countless moments that made him who he was.His legacy will not be measured simply by the 89 years he lived, but by the lives he touched and the generations who will continue to carry his memory forward. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 1:00 pm, Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 West Gate City Blvd., Greensboro, NC 27407 with visitation being held one hour prior to service.
