
Robert Alexander McCoy, 96, passed away on November 4, 2012 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Mount Pisgah United Methodist Church where he was a long time member. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park with Rev. Ted Troutman and Rev. Greg Light officiating.
Born February 14, 1916 in Charlotte, NC, he was the youngest of five children of Lonnie Columbus McCoy and Mary Jane Baker McCoy. He was educated in the Mecklenberg County Schools and graduate from Sharon High School.
Mr. McCoy worked for Duke Power in Charlotte and moved to Greensboro in 1950, he then worked for International Harvester until he retired in the early seventies.
Mr. McCoy joined the U.S. Army in 1943 and served as an artillery mechanic and infantryman from Normandy, through Belgium during the battle of the Bulge, and into Germany. He received an honorable discharge on October 16, 1945.
Mr. McCoy was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a lifetime member of the Sportsman Wildlife Club in Guilford County. But his real love, especially after retirement was golf. He played three or four times a week, every week, and was still hitting a golf ball around Pleasant Ridge Golf Course when he was 95.
He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Fern Nance McCoy; two sisters, Sarah and Hazel; two brothers, Brevard and William; Mr. McCoy was survived by one son, Robert of Greensboro.

Robert touched the lives of many and will be missed by all who knew him.
