Mrs. Emma Rosella “Rosie” Messick, 88, was greeted by her Savior on January 1, 2024. She died at home surrounded by her loving family. The family will greet guests from 11:30 AM to 1 PM, Friday, January 5 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm Chapel followed by a celebration of life at 1 PM. Interment will be at Lakeview Memorial Park.
Mrs. Messick was born in Davidson County to the late Tim and Talitha Smith Voyles. She married Jerry Messick, Sr. in 1952 and together they provided a caring Christian home to their three children. Jerry preceded her in death in 2016. She was employed with Sears Roebuck as an accountant for many years and also with her husband in their two companies, Texreco and United Metal Finishing.
She was a woman of great faith and worshipped at Parkway Baptist Church (now King’s Cross) where she was a charter member and Speedwell Presbyterian Church. She and Jerry were instrumental supporters of Riddle Evangelical and Roger Roller Evangelical Associations. Traveling was a favorite activity for her and Jerry, especially through Alaska but they also enjoyed the lower 48 as well. She was an avid equestrian and participated in many horse shows and was a gifted artist. Rosie loved and doted on her family especially her grandchildren and was overjoyed when she welcomed two new additions to her brood. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, passion for people and special way of making others feel comfortable in her company.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Cindy (Eddie) Maness of Brown Summit, Jerry (Suzanne) Messick Jr. of Julian and Diane (Debbie) Messick of Whitsett; grandchildren, Karen Apple, Gary Maness, Leann Yow, Kenneth Messick and Lori Johnson; great grandchildren, Katelyn, Mason, Logan and Lainey Apple, Carson and Blake Yow, Cameron Maness, Lilly Messick and Madeline Rosella Johnson; great great granddaughter, Taylor Laine Carmack; and sister-in-law, Anita Voyles. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Harold and Virgil Voyles.
The family would like to thank Dora and Robin for their kind and compassionate care of Rosie through her declining health.
