

Mr. Rufus Carl Buchanan, 91, of Asheboro and a former resident of Greensboro died Wednesday at the Randolph Hospice House in Asheboro. Mr. Buchanan was born November 26, 1920 in Guntersville, AL, the son of Rufus H. and Pearl Ethel Ross Buchanan. He was a retired driver and mechanic for the Holsum and Southern Bread Bakeries in Greensboro. A veteran of WW II, he served in the U.S. Navy and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Buchanan was married to the former Thelma Louise Amick who preceded him in death on October 18, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judy B. Elledge; a sister, Marinell Hensley and three brothers, Barney, Paul and Clyde Buchanan.
Surviving are two daughters, Marlene B. Oxendine and husband Lee of Asheboro, Anita B. Martin and husband Sonny of Sophia; one son, Michael Carl Buchanan of Pleasant Garden; one brother, Ideen “Deen” Buchanan and wife Louise of Staley, a son-in-law; Kurtis Elledge of Pleasant Garden, four grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro, NC 27407 conducted by Pastor Phil Collins. Interment with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.
