Ruth Mae Payne

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm St. Chapel. Burial will follow at Lakeview Memorial Park on Hwy. 29 N. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the funeral home from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.

Born in Martinsville, Virginia on November 6, 1931, to the late Thomas Green Holley and Ida Mae Hopkins Holley, Ruth was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Moses Cone Health Systems in 2000 and later volunteered in the hospital’s Emergency Room. In addition to her love for shopping, she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family. Ruth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her one true love, Max T. Payne, Sr., whom she married in December of 1949.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Rhonda Joyce and husband Steven of Pleasant Garden; sons, Doug Payne and wife Sandy of Greensboro, Jimmy L. Payne and wife Janice of Greenville, NC, and Max T. Payne, Jr. and wife Patricia of Greensboro; 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ministering angels at Pennybyrn and Hospice of The Piedmont for their loving and attentive care given to Ruth.
