Ruth Lillian Vazquez

A native of Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, Ruth carried with her the warmth and spirit of her Puerto Rican heritage throughout her life. She was a quiet and gentle woman who preferred a simple life and mostly kept to herself. She found happiness in the little things that brought her comfort and joy. She was an avid reader, with a particular love for mystery novels and the stories that kept her turning page after page.

In her younger years, Ruth also enjoyed dancing to salsa. Though she became known for her quiet and reserved nature, those who knew her could remember the joy and liveliness she found on the dance floor.

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life. Ruth faithfully attended Sunday Mass at St. Benedict Catholic Church, where she found comfort, peace, and spiritual strength.

Above all, Ruth was a devoted mother. Her love for her family was deep and unwavering, even though she was not one to always express it with many words. She showed her love through her presence, her devotion, and the quiet ways she cared for those closest to her.

Ruth was preceded in death by her beloved son, Anthony Vazquez; her husband, Santiago Vazquez; her sister, Sonia Caldona; and her brother, José Alan Pagan.

She leaves behind her loving daughter and devoted caretaker, Myra Vazquez, whose love and care were a source of comfort and strength throughout her mother's final years. She is also survived by her sister, Haydee Roman, and her brother, James Pereira, along with extended family and loved ones who will forever carry her memory in their hearts.

Ruth lived a quiet life, but her presence meant so much to the people who loved her. She will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of mystery books, her faith, her Puerto Rican roots, and the joy she once found dancing to salsa. Most of all, she will be remembered simply as Mom—a woman whose love will remain a part of her daughter's life forever.

Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, we find comfort knowing that Ruth is now at peace and reunited with the loved ones who went before her.

May she rest peacefully in the arms of God.

She will be deeply loved, forever missed, and never forgotten.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 109 W Smith St, Greensboro, NC 27401, on September 18, 2026, at 12pm. Burial will immediately follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery, 3901 Forest Lawn Dr., Greensboro, NC 27455. There will be a reception held after burial at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church.
