A graveside memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 28 at Westminster Gardens.
Mr. Harper was of the Baptist faith. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served with the 11th Airborne in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. He was a retired truck driver for Central Motor Lines with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Local 710 Teamsters. Mr. Harper enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time with his family and taking care of his canine companion, Hank. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Dorothy Harper and also 1 brother and 1 sister.
Mr. Harper is survived by his children; Sharon Harper of Wilmington, Mike Harper and wife, Maggie, Susan Cloninger, who was Mr. Harper’s caregiver for 14 years, and husband, Ken, Kym Stone and husband, Jeff all of Greensboro, Sam Harper and wife, Valerie of Madison, grandchildren; Meredith Tarble, Shannon Knight, Cheryl Grubbs, Angela Harper, Kaley Stone, Chad Stone, Nate Harper, Trever Harper and Codie Harper and great-grandchildren; Miranda Grubbs, Houston Grubbs and Evelyn Knight.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
