Sherman Eugene “Gene” Stewart, 90, a resident of Greensboro passed away on Saturday June 16, 2018 at the Adams Farm Health and Rehab Center. He was born December 12, 1927 in Greensboro the son of Sherman Roosevelt and Mary Myrtle Hart Stewart.
Gene graduated from Rankin High School. He attended Elon College where he excelled in baseball and later played for several years for the Cleveland Indians minor league teams. He returned to Greensboro where he was employed in the banking industry for 30 plus years before retiring with Bank of America.
Gene was married to Vallie Wyrick Stewart who preceded him in death on October 28, 2017. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tracey Jean Stewart and a brother, Robert Lee Stewart.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon S. Scott and husband Ricky of Oak Ridge.
