Sherry Leigh Smith Mailliez, a beloved resident of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away on January 18, 2026, at the age of 80. Sherry was born on January 8, 1946, in South Orange, NJ, daughter of the late William Leigh and Margaret Tobin Smith.
Sherry had a profound passion for breeding, selling and showing Arabian horses, a pursuit that brought her immense joy throughout her life. Her love for the arts was evident in her enjoyment of Japanese needlepoint and quilting. Additionally, Sherry's extensive knowledge about dogs nearly led her to become a dog breeder.
In addition to her parents, Sherry was preceded in death by her husband Andre in 2020. Those left to remember her fondly is her son, Brian; brothers, Steve and Leigh Smith and their families and her best friend of 35 years, Sherry Binkelman and her husband Charles. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Sherry's life will be held Friday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m., at Hanes Lineberry North Elm Chapel.
