Steve was born in Greensboro on July 2,1947 to Irvin and Jo Blackwood. He attended Sternberger, Kiser, was a 1965 graduate of Grimsley High School and a 1969 graduate of Wake Forest with a major in history and a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He served in the United States Marine Corps 1969-1972, and returned to Greensboro, where he worked at Gate City Savings and Loan and then as an independent real estate appraiser. Steve grew up in a happy and loving home, created a family that he delighted in, and spent his life in a community that loved him and that he loved in return.
He is survived by his wife of more than fifty years, Debbie, and their children, Robinson (Casey), Ben (Siara), and Allie (Noah). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Owen, Lucy, Rose, Charlie, and Julia. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Jim Blackwood; and his granddaughter, Georgia Josephine Sager.
Steve’s life will be celebrated at 2 PM, February 12 at Starmount Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice in Steve’s memory.
