Born August 11, 1958, in High Point. Mike and his brother and sister spent several years in Tabernacle Children’s Home, in Greenville, SC. His older brother James (Jimmy) McKay was sent to Vietnam to serve his country. Jimmy McKay was Mike’s hero, and the only father figure he had known. Jimmy passed away Christmas Day, and they are now rejoicing together in Heaven.
Mike graduated from High Point Central High School, and Wingate College in Wingate, NC, with a degree in Business. He worked for Graybar Electric Co. Inc., for 24 years. Mike retired from Graybar on June 1, 2017.
Mike loved UNC basketball and football, the Braves Baseball, and for many years, he went to every High Point Central Football game. Above all, he loved God, his wife and family, his Church, and friends.
He is survived by his wife Sharon A. Rivenbark; sons, Louis Kent Dawson (Jessica) of Fuquay Varina, Nathan Keith Dawson (Tasha) of Burlington, Andrew Thomas Dawson of Gibsonville; brother, Phillip Edward Rivenbark (Mary); sister, Bobbie Ann Snow (Donnie) of High Point; sister-in-law, Charlotte McKay of High Point; grandchildren, Kaden Lee Dawson, Logan Robert Dawson, Jase Wesley Dawson, Connor David Dawson, and niece, Ashley Snow. Mike is also survived by his constant companion, his Chihuahua, Lizzie. She was such a blessing to him, and she was his baby. It was an honor for Mike to be dad to Louis, Drew, and Nate. He tried to give back to them the things he didn’t have growing up. Mike has lately reminisced about all the fun times, the wonderful vacations, and all the laughter. He says he wouldn’t trade it for anything in this world. He loves his grandson’s with all his heart, and is grateful for the time he spent with them.
