Susan Buckner Gallant

Susan worked many jobs in her life to make sure her family lived comfortably. She worked as a telephone operator, packed bullets for Remington Arms during the Vietnam War and served tables at Shoney’s Restaurant in Greensboro, NC. At age 52, when her first grandchild was born, she opened a home daycare, Little Munchkin Corner. She worked 12 hour days for over 20 years making sure that her grandchildren and scores of other children had a safe place and were well loved while their parents worked.

Susan was a quiet, gentle person who never tried to draw attention to herself. She lived her life in a way that made her family and those she knew feel loved and valued.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Joseph “Eddie” Gallant; sons Danny and David Gallant; brothers David Buckner Jr., Donald Buckner, Charles Buckner; sister, Mary Smith and nephew Harold Buckner who was like a brother to her.

Susan is survived by daughters Heidi G. Pegram and her husband Ronnie, Amy G. Swanson and her husband Carlis (deceased), son Michael “Mick” Gallant and his wife Anne; 9 grandchildren, Christy Parker, Elizabeth Gallant, Brooke Capano, Luke Pegram, Sarah Solomon, Zackary Swanson, Mattie Neese, Lindsay Cox and Katie Dunkelberger; 18 great grandchildren; Hailey Perkins, Ava Gallant, Mckensly Parker, Davian Parker, Eliza Solomon, Charlotte Solomon, Ella Neese, Brynn Neese, Ainsley Swanson, James Cox, Josiah Cox, Sam Cox, Caroline Dunkelberger, Everett Dunkelberger, Micah Dunkelberger, Kase Capano, Luca Capano and Lyla Capano (on the way); sisters Lib Benton and Annette Hammond. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews-including June Robinson whom she thought of as a sister.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday February 22, 2025 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church 2203 West Market St. Greensboro, NC 27403. Immediately following will be an inurnment service at the Sedgefield Mausoleum at Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
